Christmas and New Year at the chalet

The best moments of the year in a whole house for your family or friends: Christmas Eve under the tree, long evenings by the fire, the festive dinner at the big table in the Stubn – and at midnight on New Year’s Eve, raising a glass together with a view over the snowy valley.

A Christmas week at the chalet

It is just after four when the two cars pull up at the chalet. The snow crunches underfoot, warm light spills from the windows – and in the Stubn the decorated Christmas tree is already waiting. The children run off to claim their rooms while Grandpa lights the first fire in the fireplace.

The days that follow find their own rhythm. In the morning everyone gathers at the big table; then some head to the lift, four minutes away, while others set off for a walk through the quiet end of the valley. In the afternoon the horse-drawn sleigh takes them up to the Lindlingalm – wrapped in blankets, cheeks glowing, with a warm hut parlour waiting at the top.

On Christmas Eve the open kitchen becomes the heart of the house: everyone helps with the cooking, the tiled stove warms the Stubn, the lights glow on the tree and the long table turns into a festive feast. Long after the children are asleep, the grown-ups are still sitting by the fire, talking.

And New Year’s Eve? A long dinner, games until just before midnight – and at twelve everyone stands together on the terrace, raises a glass and looks out over the snowy valley. These are the moments people talk about for years.

Holidays as they should be
